A Lagos-based human rights lawyer; Ebunolu Adegboruwa, has said that the Nigerian Government's classification of hate speech as a form of terrorism is a plot to gag the citizens as there's no"hate speech"under Nigerian law.
Mr.Adegboruwa said that any law capable of hindering the freedom of expression granted under section 39 of the 1999 constitution and the Africa charter would be illegal and unconstitutional.
"First,I do not agree on concept of hate speech", Mr.Adegboruwa further said that the National Assembly lacks the legal competence in law to pass into law any bill seeking to gag citizens.
"Such a law, if ever passed, will run counter to section 1 of the 1999 constitution which has declared the constitution to be the Supreme law".
Mr.Ebunolu Adegboruwa said this in Lagos on Saturday.
